Wondering
What thoughts of summer and love do I recall,
Too many to forget, yet too few to sate desire.
I wonder sometimes how any love begins,
Mine began with a poem that made me laugh.
One day we met and shared love by a river
We lived a while as if there was no tomorrow
And also as if there was no life before
We loved, drank and broke bread together
Too soon we had to part for such is life,
Making promises we could not ignore.
Knowing that it was not to be forever
Now we are in the autumn of our lives
With age there comes wisdom and certainty
There is no doubt we share a heart a soul.
